My artistic journey
started like most kids, drawing and coloring. I was never to fond of
coloring illustrations someone else created so I began drawing my own. Drawing came
naturally, I became addicted, and I loved it, I couldn't put a pencil to paper without illustrating some sort of image on it. I consider drawing my strongest suit. I was
blind to the world of art up until I was about 15 when I branched out to
other mediums. I touched on the closest difference to drawing,
painting. Through my late teens I resorted to drawing and painting as a way
of expression. Pouring my ideas, thoughts, and perspectives out on
paper and canvas.
During my high school years I had two art teachers
that captivated all of my attention due to their knowledge and
experience. One specializing in drawing and the other in sculpture. They
taught me some valuable lessons to which I still adhere to today. When I was 16 learned the joys of sculpting, both with ceramic and oil based clays. I enjoy sculpting so much because it incorporates both three dimensional design as well as painting and you really get the feeling that a life is forming right in front of your eyes. I graduated in 2004 and took some time
off to decide what avenue I might take to venture into the real world.
I had a big kid job for about a year and absolutely despised it, though it made me realize that I was unhappy and I was losing touch with what I loved so much.
In 2006 I was accepted into the Art Institute of Indianapolis to study graphic design with a main focus on desktop publishing. I graduated in September of 2008 with an associates degree. That piece of paper has opened door after door for me, from working freelance to designing commercially for a sign company who currently does most of the sign work on the west side of Indianapolis. My name might not be on the sign but it sure feels good to drive down a main highway to see my work alongside the road. I am currently starting a clothing company called Dirt Squirrel Clothing, if your asking "Why the name Dirt Squirrel?", you will just have to go to www.dirtsquirrelclothing.com and read about it yourself. I want to try to expand my knowledge as much as possible and clothing is just the next step up. I do work and am very meticulous of said work. I love to be challenged and push my ability to the max. If you would like to see some of my work please take a look around.
